About us

CIRKULUM festival is the first international festival of new circus in the Northern Moravia. The original concept of the festival is so unique that there has never been an equivalent to it neither in Moravia or Silesia. It includes presentation and popularization of artistic genres such as new circus, pantomime or street, physical and improvisation theatre. The festival will be held in the heart of Ostrava – Poruba the monumental part of the city with a link to the local street art tradition from the previous century. Most of the festival program will be free of charge and its main goal is not only to revive the public space but also to motivate its inhabitants to actively participate in the area they live in.

The CIRKULUM festival is organized by Cirkus trochu jinak z.s. – an artistic company will take the opportunity to celebrate entering its second decade of operation at the opening of the festival.

About a festival...

The main creative goal of the CIRKULUM festival is to change Hlavní třída street into a boulevard La Rambla in Barcelona that is considered to be one of the best places for international street art. The festival site stretches out from the top of Hlavní třída street from a roundabout where a main outdoor stage and an interactive ČEZ FUN PARK will be situated up to VŠB-TU Ostrava (Technical University of Ostrava) Assembly Hall where you will be able to find the main festival stage.

The festival will present in total 4 stages:

VŠB Assembly Hall – the main stage

You will find the main festival stage at the very top of Hlavní třída street directly in the area of New Assembly Hall of VŠB-TU Ostrava. The top performances from the best foreign art companies will be presented here. Apart from breath-taking afternoon and evening performances you can also visit day time program for families with children or outdoor cinema on the premises of amphitheatre in front of the building of the Assembly Hall.

CIRKULUM

Open-air art – the biggest outdoor festival stage will be placed inside the roundabout on Hlavní třída street. You will see outstanding performances of local as well as foreign artists. New circus, street, physical and improvisational theatre awaits you. An interactive ČEZ FUN PARK will be a part of the stage where tutorials of various new circus skills will take place.

LA RAMBLA

Hlavní třída street will change into the legendary LA RAMBLA boulevard in Barcelona. You can find there the Street art stage with fine artists, living statues, mimes, jugglers, performers of all kinds, but also modern fine arts of new generation, library or a flea market opened for everyone…
